Feature You Friday - I'm Feelin' Crafty!

Good morning StitchStealers!

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are all going to LOVE today's feature.  When we took one look at the blog, I'm Feeling Crafty, we knew that we had to feature it, and its creator Louise. I'll let her introduce herself and her blog to you:
I'm a full time working mom.  I'm an architect for my day job, then I come home and play with my almost 3 year old son.  Once he goes to bed I become a jack of all things crafty. Since I'm an architect, I do have formal training in that aspect of my life. After 5 fun years in architecture school, I graduated form Tulane University and have traveled and moved around a bit until settling here in the mostly dreary Pacific Northwest in Seattle. For all my other interests: sewing, quilting, photography, parties, crafting and my art, which is primarily 3d collage art (and which I haven't done in ages!), I don't have a bit of formal training!  My favorites at the moment (because they do change every now and then), are sewing and quilting! I love love love sewing things and figuring out how to put them together. To me, it's almost like figuring out building drawings. Except for the fact that the drawings for buildings are pretty straightforward, and with sewing you have to think about putting the pieces together backwards to get the finished results!

I started my blog, I'm Feeling Crafty, as a way to share what I make with my best crafty friend back home and with my mother, both of whom live about 3000 miles away.  Later, I switched gears and became a real "blogger" hoping that there would be other people out there that would enjoy the things I make and would give me feedback and inspiration. Once I went "public' with my blog and started getting feedback, I got addicted!  I love all the comments I get, and blogging has become a way of inspiring me to keep making things and make them better and better - to "step up my game"!
I asked Louise to share her fave projects from the blog so we could highlight some of the fabulousness you'll find at I'm Feelin' Crafty - and here they are...

Here is a Super Hero Ensemble: (Moms of boys, you will love her blog because she makes a lot of boy-centric clothes and costumes due to her little boy)
Super E Hero Ensemble
Owl favors for the party planner in you:

*Really* cute bucket hat tutorial:

And this is Louise's current personal favorite (and I think we can all see why!) - adorably sweet pillowcase dresses that she made for a friend's granddaughters (I think Louise and I need to become friends!):

So, as you can see, there is a little something for everyone and something to make for everyone! Go visit Louise at I'm Feelin' Crafty and give her some love. As an added bonus, if you head over today you can find out how to take part in her blog giveaway - of a StitchSteals gift certificate! Even without the chance to win, you'll love looking around - guaranteed!

I hope you all have a great weekend and find the time to get a little crafty yourselves!

Feature You Friday - L.L.K. Designs

Good morning StitchStealers!

Today's feature was sent to us by a fellow fabric lover, Linda.  Linda is a mother, gardener, crafter and quilter who is a former elementary art teacher (her background in art definitely comes through in her sewing!).  Linda's "crazy" quilts and wall hangings are definitely one of a kind - bright and colorful with hand embroidered, vintage and recycled fabrics and beaded details.
Linda also makes some gorgeous journal covers from recycled wool, using vintage buttons from her stash of vintage for the closures.  I love, love, love these - what a great gift idea!
Thanks for sharing your creations with us Linda! If you'd like check out more of Linda's designs, you can see them on her Flickr stream, or visit her stores at LLK Designs on Zibbet
and LLK Designs on Etsy.  Or, if blogs are more your style, you can add her musings on her LLK Designs blog to your blog reading list.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Feature You Friday - Craft Buds

Good morning StitchStealers!

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like there are too many sewing and crafty blogs to read and not enough time!  After all, as a mom of two little people my spare time is very valuable - and I would much rather spend it actually creating, than searching for the best information and tutorials.

When I heard from Lindsey and Mary, of CraftBuds, I headed over to check out the site.  Once I did, I was hooked.  If you are looking for a one stop resource for sewing and crafty goodness, plus some tips for growing a crafty business, you've found it!

I'll let Lindsey and Mary tell you more about CraftBuds:
Hi guys! I'm Lindsay, and I'm a writer, editor and crafter living in Indiana. My husband and I celebrate our 5-year anniversary this summer, and I love to travel, sew, and meet new people.

And I'm Mary and I’m a stay at home mom to an amazing little boy and wife to a great husband. Besides blogging I do freelance graphic design work and I enjoy sewing, crafting, gardening, and baking.

We were both running separate blog sites and started talking about the possibilities of a combined site. We had both been posting sewing/crafting tutorials so we decided to combine those with interviews, business tips, featured bloggers, giveaways, a master giveaway list, linky parties and more!

We started Craft Buds in March of this year. We chose the name because we hope to help people grow their blogs and online businesses as they find inspiration and information at our site. “Buds” also fits since it’s a collaboration between friends. Lindsay is a professional editor and I’m a professional graphic designer so combine that with our blogging, crafting and sewing hobbies and we make a great team!

At Craft Buds. we just really want to be a resource for people with creative dreams, who just need that extra push to get going. I love the connectivity between creative bloggers, and the ability to help each other out. Please check out our weekly giveaways linkup, which is free and open to anyone with a handmade or craft supplies giveaway!
Lindsey and Mary even sent along some of their favorite tutorials and features on the blog!

Lindsay: My favorite tutorial is Mary's hooded sweatshirt to cowl neck project. It's a great way to upcycle a child's sweatshirt and make it totally fashionable! I also loved what fabric designer Jennifer Paganelli had to share with our readers about starting her handmade business.
Mary: One of my favorite projects is the numbered bean bags. They’re great for kids to play with and they’re educational too. I also like the tote bag tutorial because I use this bag all the time. Lindsay’s Twitter for Crafters article is another favorite because it taught me a lot I didn’t know about Twitter!
It sounds great, doesn't it? After you've picked your steal, head on over to CraftBuds and check out what is new in the sewing world, maybe challenge yourself to make the Anthropologie-inspired fabric belt from the tutorial on the front page, or see what Lindsey and Mary are up to in Chicago at the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) trade show!

I'm telling you, it's a smorgasbord of ideas and inspiration for craft and fabric fans.  Have a fabulous weekend!

Feature You Friday - Family Resemblance

Good morning!

On this fabulous Friday morning, we have a fun project from your fellow StitchStealer, Charity.  She is a stay at home mom to three little ones, and crafter with many talents who likes sewing, scrapbooking, and photography.  She's also a blogger, and she sent photos of her latest project, a wallet made with some fabulous My Mind's Eye fabrics PLUS some ribbons from a CraftySteal.  She even made me jealous because she made it from a tutorial found through Pinterest - when I have yet to cross ONE item off my "To Make from Pinterest" list.

Be sure to check out her blog, Family Resemblance, for the link to the tutorial for this adorable wallet (which would be an awesome gift!).  While you are at it, take a look around - you will find more *completed* Pinterest-inspired projects (I'm hanging my head low in shame over here).  She also has sewing projects, papercrafts, kid crafts and more! You will come out with at least one thing you want to try.  Promise.

Thanks for sharing with all of us, Charity!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.  I hope you are able to steal a little time for yourself to create!

Feature You Friday - Random Thoughts Do or Di

Good morning, StitchStealers!

Today, we are featuring the blog musings of one of your fellow StitchStealers, Diane.  Diane sent her blog link to me, and I was wowed by the gorgeous photographs of her projects, hobbies and trips.  If you like quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking, or travel, I guarantee you will enjoy Diane's blog, Random Thoughts Do or "Di".

A few words Diane had to say about herself:
I am 58 years old, live in California and I am a SAHM to 4 grown sons. I have just celebrated my 39th wedding anniversary with my Mr. Romance. We love to travel, wine taste, go on food tours and photograph all of this.

We have 8 grandchildren.I love gardening, scrapbooking, baking, canning and quilting. I am passionate about quilting and blogging about quilting right now. I love reading all the blogs and learning so many new techniques. I love the look on someone's face when I have made them a quilt. I think handmade gifts are the best.

I have recently been joining several swaps and bees to connect with the quilting community. I find that quilt bloggers are a very loving and friendly group and I am happy to be a new part of this social circle. I will be celebrating my blogaversary in August with some handmade giveaways.
Here is one of her beautiful quilting projects, her Circle Me Back to Amsterdam quilt, which she made using fabrics she picked up on her travels.
Diane's latest quilt below, is a Hexagon Park in Giddy fabrics designed by Lynne of Lily's Quilts.  Diane made it for a dear friend with early onselt Alzheimer's disease (that blog post is here).
Be sure to visit Random Thoughts Do or Di to see more of Diane's handiwork (and help her celebrate that "blogaversary" in August!)  Thanks for sharing with us Diane!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Feature You Friday - Totes by Anne Webb

Good morning StitchStealers!

This morning, I am sharing a fun tote bag that a fellow StitchStealer, Anne, sent me photos of.  She made it for a teacher's gift, but I think it would make a great beach bag for the summer, a book bag for library trips, or a catch-all for the car!
A little more from Anne:
Hi everyone! I am Anne from SewManyBabies.  I am so happy to featured on Stitch Steals!  I just started by blog a little over a month ago.  So I am pretty new to the blogging world.  I have been quilting now for a few months.  But I am addicted! One thing that is not new to me is babies.  I have 4 great kids, they keep me pretty busy.  I am also a birth doula.  Helping women with their pregnancies and births is a passion of mine.  It is such a precious time in a person's life, it is humbling that they would allow me to be a part of it.
Most of the items I sew are for babies.  Maybe I have a small obsession with those adorable chubby cheeks? The new modern baby quilt patterns are just fantastic!  I have a bad habit of seeing a quilt I like and trying to recreate it with my own twist to it.  Anytime I have used someone's tutorial, I include a link with the pictures.  I hope to have it all organized with a nice tab soon.  If my brain can figure out how to do that!!! Thank you so much for visiting my blog.  I hope you will become a follower.  Maybe we will get to know each other!
As a mama who used a doula with her first baby, and a person who loves fabric and seeing other people's crafty talents, her blog, SewManyBabies, was a fun one for me to check out!  She's got quilts and adorable baby bibs projects that she's completed too. Thanks for sharing with us Anne!

Don't forget to head over to StitchSteals for another awesome steal - with a special deal as we continue to celebrate our first birthday!
Have a great weekend!

Feature You Friday: Barabooboo Designs

Good morning StitchStealers!

So, who is liking the owl trend in crafting and sewing? I see these sweet little birds all over the place these days - scrapbooking, cards, and many a pillow or stuffed animal.  I have to say that I am a sucker for the little guys. Today’s feature is a fellow StitchStealer, Michelle, who also has a soft spot in her heart for owls.

Michelle has been sewing since the tender age of five (kudos to her mom for teaching her!). She started studying fine at University, but after a sudden death in the family, she found her desire to paint, draw, sculpt and write had waned. She changed paths and moved into a floral design program and then spent many years as a floral designer. Three years ago she left behind that creative outlet and began a new venture as stay-at-home mom. We all know that the creative itch never goes away, so Michelle began to sew – mostly quilts, but also bags, clothes, pillows, among other things. With all of that sewing, she decided to sell some of the extras, and her Etsy shop, Barabooboo was born.  Michelle takes custom requests for her ADORABLE owl quilts at her Etsy shop.  Some of the Riley Blake fabrics she "stole" from StitchSteals are even beginning to show up in her work.

Here are some of her latest creations (and the last photo is a shirt she designed for the Riley Blake Apparel Contest):

Be sure to take a look at her Etsy store, Barabooboo, or visit her on Facebook to see more of these quilts. Thanks for sharing Michelle!

Have a wonderful weekend, and don’t forget to check out today’s StitchSteal!

Feature You Friday - Hats for QTs by Anabela

Good morning StitchStealers!

A couple of months ago, your fellow StitchStealer Anabela, shared a few pictures of her adorable crocheted hats. I thought they were so fun and colorful, that I wanted to share them, and her home-grown business, Hats for QTs, with all of you.

Here is a little something from Anabela, about herself:
Hats for Qt's is a small business that I'm starting as a form of therapy for me. I'm a mother of three beautiful and wonderful children, two princesses and one prince and they are the sunshine in the darkest of my days. One of my quotes is,"the beauty that surrounds me is absolutely breathtaking; it's the faces of my children."

I'm absolutely fascinated with art of every from, whether it be painting, writing poetry or crocheting. It allows me to express my true, worthy self, because in this world, another one of my quotes,"we all have our issues, our problems, our pain, but in the end one thing shall remain; we all have a purpose and we all have worth. We just need to find our passion, take hold of it and share it with the world." God bless!
Thanks for sharing your creations with us, Anabela! Check out Anabela's Hats for QTs on Facebook , or her webiste, Hats for QTs, to see more of her crochet work!

Have a wonderful weekend and hope you all get in some time to create!

Feature You Friday - Quilts of Valor

Good morning StitchStealers!

As we get ready for a 3-day weekend, I thought it would be a great time to feature a worthy cause that gives back to the brave servicemen and women this holiday is supposed to help us honor.
I first heard about Quilts of Valor on Hoarders (yes, the A&E show, Hoarders!).  The woman on the show had a house filled with fabric and quilts and was very involved in her local chapter.  While I'm not going to endorse anyone turning their home into a fabric warehouse, I do think that what Quilts of Valor does is definitely worthy of a attention.

Quilts of Valor is a national not-for-profit organization that "awards" quilts to any American serviceman affected by war.  It was started by a mother of a serviceman who wanted a tangible way to express gratitude to the brave men and women serving our country.  The lap quilts are given at military hospitals, VA hospitals, and to units returning home after combat.

You can help Quilts of Valor in many ways: donate time as a volunteer, donate materials, make a quilt, teach someone else how to make a quilt, or send monetary support.  It's a great way to get involved in your community and to give back and give thanks.  Here is a link to a map of local chapters - check to see if there is one near you!

On this Memorial Day, I will be thinking of all of those who have served, or are currently serving our country.  I am so grateful for the sacrifices they and their families make for us.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Feature You Friday - Monica

Good morning StitchStealers!

It is finally starting to stay warm around here in Texas, but I know that some of you are still getting wintry weather worthy of cozying up with a quilt! (My mother-in-law sent a picture of her snow covered house last Thursday morning!) Whether it be cold or warm where you are, I'm pretty sure you will still love what I have to show you today.

Here's a few words from your fellow StitchStealer, Monica, and a picture of her beautiful quilt.
I live in Canada and have two children ages 21 and 15. I have made many quilts for them and it was a baby quilt for the oldest that got me hooked on quilting.  I absolutely love it. I used to make clothing for my kids when they were younger but now strictly concentrate on quilting.
I saw this pattern in a magazine a few years ago and simply had to do it. It took me two years to complete it, as I kept working on other projects, but I finally did. I do a lot of work with neutrals and so this was a nice change.
Gorgeous, isn't it? Thanks again for sharing Monica!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and don't forget to check out today's steal!

Feature You Friday - Gardenpetal Designs

Good morning StitchStealers!

We have some serious eye candy for you this morning!   Your fellow StitchStealer, Steffany, shared some projects she's been creating for her business, Gardenpetal Designs.  Here is what Steffany had to say about herself, and how her business began:
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, a Degree in Education, was a Home Ec. Teacher for a few years before my daughter was born, but now I am a stay at home mom. I have been sewing all my life. I was taught by my mother at an early age and cannot remember not being able to use a sewing machine. I started having a passion for baby items when I was pregnant with my daughter, Lily. Before that I was an avid quilter.  The best part about making baby items is they don't take up too much of my time (which I don't have much to spare) and they are fun, and unique. Quilting, was very time consuming and would often take me a year to complete a project. This gives me a lot of satisfaction, especially since I know that the babies like them. My daughter was crazy about all the things I made her so I am just passing on the joy! I created my business to enable myself to continue to stay at home with my daughter instead of returning to the work force.
Gardenpetal Designs specializes in handmade, hand-designed mom, tot and baby items. Mostly baby toys, diapers and anything baby related that is soft, cuddly and made of fabric. Most of my business is custom work and one of a kind. I have a passion for cloth diapering and have perfected my cloth diapers over the course of 2 years using my daughter as a tester! I make the perfect diaper for a skinny child. Having a very thin baby, it was hard to find a diaper that would not leak, so i decided to embark on the journey of making them to fit her all by myself, and now I pass on all that hard work, research and redesigning to the customers with my diapers which are colorful, one of a kind, and baby and earth friendly.
Here are some of those unique creations:

I love all of the fabrics you use! Thank you so much for sharing with us Steffany.  Everyone, be sure to check out more of Steffany's work at the Gardenpetal Designs Facebook page.

Have a wonderful weekend (and don't forget to take a look at today's awesome StitchSteal)!

Feature You Friday - Girly gifts with the Silhouette

Good morning StitchStealers!

Today, I'm doing a little shameless showing off of a creation I made for two sweet girls who are having a birthday this week.  These twins are into different things - one is into Toy Story, and the other can't get enough of princesses.  They also love to be crafty (they are just like their mom, who is another CraftySteals fan!).

I decided to make them each a basket of craft goodies - and since we all like to keep the paint and glue off of our kids' clothes, I thought I would give them some craft smocks.  On the hunt for some cute ones I went.  Okay, have you SEEN how much craft smocks go for these days? I couldn't find one for under $15! So, I did a little brainstorming, did some shopping at the craft store and in the Past Steals on StitchSteals.com, and came up with these beauties - personalized and much more affordable!

I used the purple and pink Silhouette heat transfer from the pastel bundle, and some Silhouette rhinestones (both on the StitchSteals past steal page).  As part of their basket of markers, paints, puzzles and crafts, I hope the girls love these craft aprons as much as I enjoyed making them!

Have a great weekend, and be sure to check out today's Riley Blake "Enchanted" line on StitchSteals - a gorgeous collection of fabrics perfect for your spring projects.

Feature You Friday: Project Linus

Photo: http://www.act.earthday.org/
Good morning StitchStealers!

Happy Earth Day!  In 1970, Earth Day was started as an effort to increase public consciousness about environmental concerns.  Since then, it has led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the passing of the Clean Water, Air and Endangered Species Acts.  Earth Day has also evolved from a day of demonstrations and rallies, to a day of action for everyday people - to start recycling, start reducing and taking every small step to helping conserve our resources and protect the Earth we live on.

In honor of that, we thought we should "feature" a way that StitchStealers could do their part today.  In trying to find a connection, I kept coming back to scraps.  Extra material.  Maybe something we bought that didn't end up working.  Maybe an abandoned project that you don't know what to do with.  Well, instead of storing them in your garages or basements (hopefully not the garbage!), you should put those extra scraps to work whether it be on your work table or someone else's!

There are many charities that take donations of fabrics, and even more that take donations of knitted hats, bags and blankets.  One that caught my attention, is Project Linus.

Project Linus is a national non-profit 100% volunteer organization that provides new, handmade, washable blankets to critically ill and/or traumatized children, ages newborn to 17 years of age.  There are local chapters of Project Linus that accept donations of yarn and fabric, notions and various other supplies - as well as take donations of finished blankets or quilts.  Many chapters also get together to create these special blankets.

The Project Linus Chapter for several North Texas counties has an especially heartwarming story on their website that I am linking to here (though I will warn you you will need a few tissues by your side if you'd like to read it).  It is about how these blankets touched the lives of some of those affected by the tragic events at Columbine High School.

If you would like to participate or inquire about your local chapter, take a look at the Project Linus website.

If you'd like to participate in an Earth Day event near you, you can search one out on the Earth Day Network website as well.  (Even if only to make a "green" pledge to turn your lights off when you leave the room - every little bit counts!).

Also in honor of Earth Day, check out today's StitchSteal - fun canvas tote bags (in three colors) from Alternative Apparel.  As a company, Alternative Apparel is dedicated to sustaining our natural environment through use of low-impact dyes, energy conservation and uses many recycled and organic materials.  You'd be getting products made by an eco-friendly company AND getting a steal - it's a win-win!

Have a wonderful weekend!
